O’Malley touts Invest Maryland legislation
ANNAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Martin O’Malley is highlighting his Invest Maryland proposal.
The governor is holding an event in Annapolis on Thursday he’s calling Invest Maryland Day.
The Invest Maryland initiative would create a public-private partnership to invest $100 million in innovative start-up companies in the state.
The program would offer tax credits to insurance companies at a discounted rate of exchange for investing in the initiative.
Baltimore bus service suspended in snowstorm
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Maryland Transit Administration says it will suspend local bus service because of the snowstorm.
MTA spokesman Terry Owens says service will be suspended at 11 p.m. Wednesday and resume on major arteries at 5 a.m. Thursday.
Owens says riders should check the MTA website at www.mta.maryland.gov or call 410-539-5000 before going out to wait for a bus.
Firefighters battle blaze, snow, wind
BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore fire officials say firefighters fought a two-alarm house fire in heavy snow and wind. One person was seriously hurt after jumping from a window.
Battalion Kevin Cartwright says the fire was reported Wednesday night and extended to the third floor of the three-story structure.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
MTA curbs bus services; light rail delayed
The Maryland Transit Administration has suspended local bus service and expects it to resume at 5 a.m. Thursday. It has canceled all commuter bus services provided by contractors Thursday.
The agency said service on the light rail line is running 30 minutes late and is not stopping at the Woodberry station. It said the Metro has been running on schedule.
